Recently a lot of people have been talking about their vacation and experiences in Siargao and I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about till I visited the island myself, and I have to say that it never occurred to me that another island in the Philippines could impress me more than Palawan.

Everything in Siargao is amazing! The people on the island are blessed to see and experience their natural resources everyday.

If you’re up for some beach getaway that is touristy but not too touristy compared to Palawan or Boracay, then checkout Siargao . 😎

I would recommend staying in Isla Cabana Resort, where the service and hospitality they give to their guests is 10/10! No kidding! This is the first resort that I’ve stayed in the Philippines, that really impressed me with their kindness and service. Not only are the staff friendly and helpful, but the resort is well maintained and simply beautiful.

I only got to stay on the island for 4 days and some people would say that this is kinda long but I beg to defer. I was trying to balance being a beach bum and doing some touristy activities at the same time and luckily I was able to do almost all the things I wanted to do, but still the days weren’t enough.

Activities You Shouldn’t Miss:

Island Hopping☀

This activity is composed of visiting three small islands (Daku, Guyam and Naked Island), where you can relax and relish a good book, play games on the sands, swim, surf, snorkel, or even just enjoying a yummy BBQ lunch prepared freshly on the island.

After a few hours on Daku island, we headed to Naked & Guyam Island to say goodbye to the sun.

Fishing

Typically not everyone would be doing this kind of activity on a beach getaway but in case you’ve never done fishing before, then you can add this on your list of things to do in Siargao.

We actually had fun testing our patience and having a contest on who catches the most and as usual… My sister won. 😒

Surfing

Known as the tropical island paradise for surfing, a getaway in Siargao wouldn’t be complete without doing this sport. There are many surfing spots in the island, but I guess the famous one is in “Cloud 9”, where international surf competitions are held.

If you are a beginner in surfing then you can hire a instructor to teach you. They usually charge 500php/hour but you could probably haggle for a lower price. 😆

Magpupungko Beach and Tidal Pools

Created by nature itself Magpupungko beach is truly one of a kind. Composed of cream colored sand with amazing rock formations and beautiful turquoise tidal pools, no photo can justify its true beauty. This place is definitely not to be missed.

The best time to visit the beach is during the low tide as this allows you to see the rock formations that surrounds it.  You can always ask assistance from the locals or your hotel as to when exactly is the best time to visit Magpupungko during your stay in Siargao.

I really had fun exploring the area, there was so much to see and discover. Just be careful with the sea urchins. 😱

Bucas Grande Island

Last but not the least, the enchanting Bucas Grande Island. This I have been waiting for to visit ever since I was studying in Japan months ago. The main reason is that they have a Jellyfish Sanctuary where you can swim and touch them. 😍

Depending where you are staying it takes a 2 hour boat ride to reach Bucas Grande Island, especially when you are in Siargao. So we left our hotel around 7:00am and arrived 9am.

As soon as we arrived we paid our fees at the Sohoton Cove National Park Center. It is required to register and pay the fees before you start the tour. We paid 1,800php for three people and this includes the environmental fee, docking fee, pumpboat with tour guide and boat with a paddler for Jellyfish Sanctuary.

We did the Sohoton Cove Tour first which was totally captivating and enchanting. To see is to believe and so I will not spoil anything for you! 😆 Haha!! But seriously, don’t miss out this activity.

The Sohoton Cove tour will only take around 2 hours tops, so you will still have plenty of time to do other activities.

Next we have the Jellyfish Sanctuary….

Here I had the best time, I really love learning about sea creatures and especially the one that inspired the name for my blog site. I was extra careful in touching them and I couldn’t believe that I actually did since they either sting or are  poisonous but YIPPEE for these specie! Haha!

You can swim with the Jellyfish but if you have sunblock on then it would harm them and eventually kill them, so please be respectful and responsible when you do this activity.

The peak season of the Jellyfish would be around April and May according to the tour guides and locals but during those months the tourist are also at its peak. So if you want to avoid the crowd then better go  during low season which is July and November.

Other seasons to look out for is the month of September where Siargao hosts an International Surfing Competition and where some areas of the Island celebrates their fiesta (Festival). This would be a good time to party around the island. WooHoo!!😎
