Usually every woman before getting hitched or before turning the big “3-0” have the “Must Travel Alone Dream” on their bucket list and this is one of my biggest challenge because truth be told, it’s scary and usually risky for a woman to travel alone but the opportunity came where I wanted to go to Hakone and everyone was just too busy to come with me. (Destiny calls! Joke!)
So after a month of planning and booking, I am so proud to announce that one of the biggest milestones in my life and one of the scariest things to do on my bucket list (at least for me) is finally achieved and now gets a check mark. ✅ YEY!!
The first thing I researched about Hakone is a place to stay because christmas is fast approaching and i am on a tight budget, plus I am traveling alone and would want to be safe as much as possible. (Have been thinking of a lot of weird & scary things before this trip happened and I wonder where my imagination came from)😅
So after an extensive amount of researched I decided to stay at Fuji-Hakone Guest House . It has a great location between the tourist places I wanted to go , 2 minute walk from bus stops (this is very important for me because I am so bad at directions and taking public transportation’s) , has a nearby convenience store , the lodging price is affordable, guest review’s on TripAdviser website were amazing and based on my experience the guest house is very clean, staff was very2x helpful/friendly and can speak English. 😃
My room was so cozy that every morning was a struggle to get up and get going.
The Guest House also has an indoor and outdoor Hot spring but for the outdoor one you must request separately because it is not part of your room charge. I never did the outdoor one because it was freezing cold outside but I heard from the other guests that you can see the stars while you bathe. 😱
As soon as I was settled the staff directly helped me with my itinerary and was 100% helpful! 👍 You can definitely tell they are used to helping their guests because they have maps available on different languages about Hakone, self made albums of places to go and the entrance fee prices, good & bad places to eat with pictures and details, bus routes and etc. (I was very impressed of how prepared they were!)
Another thing the staff told me was that I should be aware and be careful of wild boars (as if I wasn’t already scared enough traveling alone).🐗
The moment she told me this I already thought of how to protect myself and that is wack it with my sister’s gopro stick as if this is going to save me (sorry sis) if I get attacked by one. I also have some cookies in my bag, so i can share some to it. 😓
As soon as I left the guest house on my first day I encountered this dead animal on the road while walking to a tourist destination. It freaked the hell out of me! 20 steps before passing by it, I already thought it was boar lying down (Yup I am so scared of encountering one) but thank goodness it was just a dead animal.😂
Took a photo of it and walked as fast as I can because my weird imagination is thinking that the animal is just playing dead and it will chase me.😂
If ever you guys want to visit Hakone for a couple of days, stay at Fuji Hakone Guest House. You will definitely love the place, the staff’s hospitality and the convenience of its location.
Over all this experience was super amazing, I stepped out of my comfort zone and took this challenge to grow and educate myself. As for the single girls out there, you might want to do this as soon as possible 😉 , even if you are just traveling within your country. Time to put that check mark on your bucket list!
